Description
Close racing during a heat of the Victorian solo speedway championships. SSRAV track, Broadford, Victoria. 12/12/2009.
For those unfamiliar with motorcycle speedway.
The sport originated in Maitland, New South Wales in the 1920s.
The bikes are 500cc methanol fueled 4 strokes powered by either Jawa or GM (Italy) engines. In top tune they develop about 75hp. And reach speeds of 110-120 Kph on the straight section of the track.
They are hard tailed and have no gears and no brakes…
They race flat out round a 400 metre oval track covered in shale or watered clay.
